Tamil film songs are, whether based on classical raagas, folk or contemporary tunes, melodious. That is to say, with some reservation, there is only melody in them. The other aspect - mood is largely absent. But some songs are exceptional. `Paar magale paar` is a great song with an ideal combination of mood and melody. But these types of songs are few and far between.

The arrival of ARRahman in Indian music scence is indeed epoch-making. Songs after songs he blends beautifully, mood and melody. By introducing new voices, he adds a new touch of vibrancy, youth, excitement and various other moods, while not loosing appropriateness to the lyrics. Listening becomes a new experience, easily identifying the nature of the songs and get abosrbed in the background.
