Hello TTV readers:
Sometime ago my friend Shyam Shekar at Madras
met Ilaiyarajaa at his recording studio and spent an afternoon chatting and watching the genious at work. He wrote an article series about it and it is now being published on-line in"Tamil Thirai Valai" in the "Specials" section at:
I have started this thread to have a dicussion about this article series and I welcome your input.

There seem to be some problem with the URL that
I specified above. The correct web address is:

Thanks much. Really appreciate your friend's efforts. Isaignani seems to have embraced technology. How does this man change his ways so quickly? It is very honorable to know that Gentleman magazine has spotlighted Karthik Raja as the top 20 young Indians to look out for.
I am eagerly waiting for Part III.

ungal nanbar koduththu vaiththavar
pOlirukkirathu. I like to watch in
person when Ilaiyaraaja is composing.
That is my dream, hope one day I will
make it happen. And regarding the articles,
it seems like, third part will be more
interesting than these two parts. I can't
wait to read his comments on latest tech etc.
Thanks for the pointer and looking
forward to the next part,

Great !! I wish we could get such an opportunity..
But " .. Forty violinists have given way to Synths.. " was a bit dissappointing ..

This is one expert from the interview. hope I am not violating any laws, if so I am sorry.
My complaining mood turns into a suggestive one. Why canít Raaja release a series of albums containing his re-recordings? Who owns the copyright to re-recordings? Why arenít his gems from the period 1975 to 1995 available on CD & tape? Why are we made to hunt for these scores? I go on to tell him about the tapes of `JHONNY' which play only on one speaker and are still being bought by his admirers like me.
He laughs. `Appadiya? Re-recording porutha varai composer thaan rights oda owner. Naan cassette pottal adai appadiye TV serial-il adichiduvaanga. Appadiyae poduvaanga. Adanaala seyyalai'.
Is it good reason for not relasing his bgm?. If we can extend this, why cant IR stop scoring songs, so that people like anand-miland can not
copy and make money.
I can only laugh reading his answer.

Hari, I agree with you, but I don't think IR was serious when he gave that answer. That must be a standard reply he gives to "avoid" the question. If he were seriously thinking so, he wouldn't even cut any private albums fearing copying, but he hasn't stop coming out with private albums!!

For those who read the Ilaiyaraja Interview
by my friend Shyam Shekar at "Tamil Thirai
Valai" - Indolink:
The concluding part IV of that article has
been added just now, after I discovered that
it has been omitted and the article has ended
abrubtly. Please visit this site again and read
the concluding part IV, if you are interested.

Sorry for the digression.. but could'nt find any
other thread....am simply sharing my experience
I am listening to this great song
"Thendral Vandhu ennai thodum"... I have no words
to describe it...
Ilaiyaraaja ... I shall ever be indebted to you
for giving me this truly heavenly experience !

The interview was quite shallow and was highly prejudiced. it is not probing enough. some of the comments made were unjustifiable, like "Despite the sound revolution engineered by Rahman and Yuvan Shankar Raaja (his own son)". sound revolution, by USR??i don't think so.
