It would be nice if we can have a separate forum dedicated for asking questions and giving replies about the fundamentals of music. To start with everybody says "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Da Ni" are the fundamentals. But, still how is it organised as an art or science?

are there sixteen ragas in total or sixteen primary or main ragas in general? I'm so sumb on the ethics of music, please educate me. This question arises in my mind from the song
"Ragangal padhinaru urvana varalaru naan padum pothe arivaayamma...palanooru ragangal irundhalenna padhinaaru paada suvaiyanadhu"
Can someone explain this in detail to me.

Folks, there are infinite threads in the ARCHIVES on this, with all sorts of combinations: classical and TFM, WCm impact on TFM, etc.
Please go there and continue discussions there.
